K-12 State-Adopted Chinese Language Curriculum for Chinese Teachers and Schools in Tennessee

I have been hearing wonderful news recently about Chinese language programs jump-starting in Tennessee. Did you know that K-12 Better Chinese materials and online programs are state-adopted in Tennessee?

What does it mean to be state-adopted? Last year, Better Chinese participated in a review process that examined whether our curriculum aptly correlates with Tennessee state standards for foreign language learning. Better Chinese sent our materials to the state's various school district members and also to a specifically-selected panel of Tennessee teachers and administrators for review. Better Chinese representatives also traveled to Tennessee for Q&A sessions hosted by the State Department for Education. These presentation opportunities allowed panel members to inquire more about our textbooks. After several months, the panel reviewers concluded that our materials were very much suitable for Tennessee students learning Chinese.

What does state-adopted curriculum mean for you as a Chinese teacher in Tennessee? Once materials are state adopted, your school can apply for state funding to purchase state-approved textbooks. For elementary programs, teachers can examine our two series, My First Chinese Words and My First Chinese Reader, which are listed as suitable for K-3 and Grades 2-5 respectively. Our secondary materials include Discovering Chinese, for Grades 6-12, and our more advanced series Magical Tour of China, suggested for Grades 9-12 students. Aside from textbooks and workbooks, we also have an array of supplemental materials such as multimedia, readers, and online story library subscriptions to help create a comprehensive and interactive classroom learning environment.
