Typhoon Morakot's rainy and destructive course through Southern China, Taiwan, and other parts of Southeast Asia on August 8th, 2009 has devastated the lives of countless residents and submerged several towns and villages under beds of mud. With the death toll continuing to rise and thousands of others suddenly becoming homeless, the cost of the damages and the amount needed for relief efforts add up to at least US $3.4 billion dollars.
