Online Recording

To check your microphone's performance for successful voice recording, please follow these simple steps for your operating systems.

For Windows XP/Vista/7:
  1. 1. Check that the system volume is on by making sure the mute boxes are unchecked in the Volume Control Panel.
  2. 2. Check to see if you have a built-in microphone or test your new external microphone
    1. Go to "Start" -> "Programs" -> "Accessories" -> "Entertainment" -> "Sound Recorder"
    2. Click the record button (red circle) and start speaking
    3. If you see the green line move as you speak, then your microphone works
  3. 3. Clear cache in your browsers
    1. Internet Explorer 8: Click "Safety" menu (upper right) -> Select "Delete Browsing History" -> Check "Temporary Internet Files and History" box
    2. Firefox: Click the "Tools" menu -> Select "Clear Recent History" -> Check "Cache" box
    3. Google Chrome: Click the "Tools" menu (the wrench in the upper-right hand corner) -> Select "Options" -> Click the "Under the Hood" tab -> Click "Clear Browsing Data" -> Check "Empty the cache" box
  4. 4. Make sure Adobe Flash is up-to-date
For Macintosh:
  • 1. Check the "Sound" in System Preferences to make sure the input volume is turned up by moving the blue cursor to the right.
  • 2. Clear cache in your browsers
    1. Safari: Click the "Safari" menu -> Select "Empty Cache"
    2. Firefox: Click the "Tools" menu -> Select "Clear Recent History" -> Check "Cache" box
    3. Google Chrome: Click the "Tools" menu (the wrench in the upper-right hand corner) -> Select "Options" -> Click the "Under the Hood" tab -> Click "Clear Browsing Data" -> Check "Empty the cache" box
  • 3. Make sure Adobe Flash is up-to-date
