How do I display Chinese characters?

Displaying Chinese in Windows XP

For viewing in Internet Explorer browser, the problem would be universal for displaying all Chinese characters on your browser. You can test this by going http://cn.yahoo.com & http://tw.yahoo.com . If the browser looks like the following Internet Explorer picture, then you have to select the language preference.

1. Just click on View
2. Navigate to Encoding
3. On the computers that do not display Chinese properly, you have to click on More and select Chinese Simplified.
4. If you don't have the language pack downloaded, Internet Explorer will prompt you to download or insert your Windows disk. Just follow the direction. See the picture below.

For typing in Office, you need to install the Global Input Method Editor from Microsoft. You may have to ask your IT support to do this for you. But the instruction is as follows...
To add another keyboard layout or Input Method Editor (IME)
2. On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click Details.
3. Under Installed services, click Add.
4. In the Input language list, click the language for the keyboard layout or Input Method Editor (IME) you want to add.
5. Select the Keyboard layout/IME check box, if multiple options are available, and then click a service in the list.
6. If Keyboard Layout/IME is the only type of text service available, click an option in that list.
Notes
1. To open Regional and Language Options, click Start, click Control Panel, click Date, Time, Language, and Regional
2. Options, and then click Regional and Language Options.
3. There may be only one keyboard layout for some languages.
